Patient rights and responsibilities
Last updated
Good care is a partnership. This page sets out what you can expect from us when you consult Dr. James at Badr Al Samaa Royal Hospital, and what helps us care for you well.
Your rights
Respectful care. You will be treated with courtesy and dignity, whatever your age, nationality, language or condition.
Clear information. You can expect a plain explanation of your condition, the options, what tests or treatments are for, and what they may cost, in a language you understand .
Privacy and confidentiality. Your consultations and records are confidential. Information is shared only with your consent, with those directly involved in your care, or where the law requires.
Informed consent. Tests and treatments are explained before they happen, and you may say no or ask for time to decide.
Access to your records. You may request copies of your medical records and reports, in line with hospital policy and Omani law.
A second opinion. You are free to seek another medical opinion at any time. It is your right, not an offence to us.
To raise concerns. You can raise a concern about your care without it affecting how you are treated. Concerns can be raised with the practice or through the hospital's patient relations process .
Your responsibilities
- Give a full and honest history: symptoms, medicines, supplements, allergies, past illnesses and reports.
- Ask when something is not clear. There are no embarrassing questions in a consultation.
- Follow the agreed plan, or tell us honestly if you cannot or choose not to, so the plan can be adjusted.
- Keep appointments or cancel in reasonable time so the slot can go to another patient.
- Treat staff and other patients with the same courtesy you expect.
Emergencies
In a medical emergency, go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a website or WhatsApp reply.
